The new Ford C-MAX
Revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, the completely new C-MAX takes its design cues from the stunning iosis-MAX concept car, first seen at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. By providing new levels of style, desirability and flexibility as a family car, the new C-MAX is set to take the compact multi-activity vehicle (MAV) market by storm.
Stylish, spacious and now with a choice of a flexible 5-seat or 7-seat layout, the new C-MAX represents a significant step forward. Supreme comfort, ergonomics and safety are complemented by responsive, lower CO2 engines.
7-seat Grand C-MAX
The 7-seat Grand C-MAX has a longer wheelbase and a higher roofline compared to 5-seat C-MAX. As a result visibility is enhanced and you'll benefit from a more commanding driving position. Plus, the generously proportioned interior feels lighter, elegant and spacious.
The twin sliding doors provide easy access, particularly in narrow parking bays and when child seats are fitted. They're also neatly integrated, with the rail cleverly concealed by the shoulder of the vehicle.
For even greater versatility, the 2+3+2 seating can be easily reconfigured into a 2+2+2 layout. This ingenious design enables the middle second-row seat to quickly fold away to create a handy walk-through space. It's another helpful innovation that improves rear passenger comfort and practicality.
When you need cavernous capacity, the second and third-row seats fold to provide a completely flat load floor. Reconfiguring the interior is easy because all the mechanisms are designed to require just one hand to operate.
5-seat C-MAX
Enjoy the sporty feel and coupé looks of the 5-seat C-MAX while still retaining the original C-MAX virtues of roominess and practicality.
The 5-seat C-MAX also keeps the same seating arrangement of the current model with three individual 40/20/40 folding seats. There's also the optional layout which allows the outer seats to slide diagonally backwards and inwards to create a luxurious 2+2 layout.
Ingenious interior
You'll discover the all new C-MAX shares many of the same design cues as the iosis-MAX concept car, revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. In fact, the Ford kinetic Design philosophy also shapes the style of the cabin to reflect the dynamic character of the exterior.
The driving experience is enhanced by the cockpit layout. Common to both C-MAX models, it provides a commanding, raised driving position with high-mounted gearshift and centre console. The sweeping lines of the instrument panel and central control area build on the highly acclaimed layout in the all new Fiesta, while easy-to-master controls complement pin-sharp instrument clarity.
Beyond the technology you'll find practical touches that make C-MAX the perfect family vehicle. Carefully designed stowage areas are located throughout the cabin, including generous door pockets, a large glove box, and additional compartments and cupholders in the centre console.
Lower CO2, no compromise
New advanced vehicle and engine technologies enhance the performance, safety and sustainability of C-MAX.
Award-winning TDCi diesel engines are upgraded while the new EcoBoost petrol engines have been established in the US and are soon to be available in the UK. The EcoBoost engines are responsive, capable and efficient with surprising performance benefits. In fact, they're increasing mpg and reducing CO2 emissions by up to 20%, compared to equivalent larger conventional engines.
The all new C-MAX will also feature the option of Ford’s latest high efficiency PowerShift, six-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. This can also improve fuel economy by up to 10% compared to a conventional automatic transmission.
C-MAX technologies
Explore the new technologies featured in the C-MAX, some of which are firsts for Ford. Designed to improve practicality, comfort and safety, they're likely to make C-MAX an even more desirable choice for families.
You'll find these technologies are incorporated into one of Ford's most innovatively engineered and thoughtfully crafted vehicle layouts to date.
New Ford Mondeo
Smart design, enhanced quality
Key exterior changes include distinctive new grilles featuring a bolder lower trapezoid and a slim, stylish opening above, plus an enhanced bonnet profile. New front bumpers include LED daytime running lights, and re-designed rear lights also employ LED technology. Additionally a new rear deck lid treatment matches the revised rear light profile.
The interior is also upgraded and features a new flow-through centre console design, revised door treatment featuring flush and integrated door release handles, and a new central overhead console with ambient lighting. New trim materials across the range have been selected to enhance the premium interior feel of the new Mondeo.
New Mondeo’s interior also benefits from a range of new features, including the introduction of LED courtesy lights and a new satellite navigation system, while music lovers will be able to enjoy the new Premium Sound System option which incorporates a 265-watt, eight-channel amplifier unit, all-new speaker system and large, 17-litre subwoofer.
Higher performance, more technology
The launch of the new Mondeo will see the first application of a higher performance 240PS version of the efficient 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine. This will be complemented by the existing 203PS version of this engine launched in Mondeo, new S-MAX and new Galaxy earlier this year.
While the new 240PS engine provides extra performance, average CO2 emissions are targeted to be just 179g/km, the same as the 203PS unit, regardless of bodystyle. Ford EcoBoost technology also provides fuel consumption and emissions reductions of up to 20 per cent compared to traditional petrol engines of a similar capacity.
Another first for the new Mondeo is the introduction of the comprehensively revised 2.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi engine, which boasts a 12 per cent power increase to 200PS, making it the most powerful Duratorq diesel engine to date. The Mondeo TDCi line-up sees this new engine joined by a significantly improved 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel that has already been introduced to the Mondeo range earlier this year. This engine is available with 115, 140 or 163PS power ratings, with all of them delivering an average CO2 emission of just 139g/km with a six-speed manual transmission, regardless of body styles.
To make these powertrains even more efficient, a number of new Ford ECOnetic Technologies are now made available, including Smart Regenerative Charging, Ford Eco Mode and – a Ford first – an Active Grille Shutter system. This electronically controlled device regulates the airflow through the radiator and engine compartment to reduce aerodynamic drag, but also offers benefits to the engine heating characteristics to improve fuel economy and warm-up performance in cold weather.
Powertrain advances in the new Mondeo also extend to the transmission: the latest six-speed Ford PowerShift double wet-clutch transmission system comes as standard for Ford EcoBoost petrol engines, and will be available as an option for the 140PS and 163PS versions of the 2.0-litreDuratorqTDCi.
The new Mondeo range will include a comprehensive array of driver assistance features, many of which are appearing for the first time in a Ford model, including Lane Departure Warning, Driver Alert and Auto High Beam. New features already introduced in the latest S-MAX and Galaxy models are now extended to the Mondeo range, including the Blind Spot Information System, Speed Limiter, Rear Door Power Child Locks and Rear View Camera.
